Re-use that pays off – in source and target languages

MindReader – the delta principle in editing

Technical documents contain a large amount of content that is similar or identical to information already contained in earlier versions. And that applies to the source editing language as well as the target translation languages. Against that background, it is absolutely imperative to re-use previously created content from Transit as valuable reference material in the editing process as well so as to obtain consistency of terminology and phrasing.
The principle of re-using existing content is the cornerstone of the MindReader concept, a memory that recalls existing words and phrases and enables content consistency to be checked and maintained.
Editors only work on content that is being created for the first time. Existing text is taken from the available reference material.
With MindReader, editors are able to create a high-quality data resource. In the end it is the quality of the edited content that determines the quality of the output. MindReader performs a quality-assurance function in that connection by ensuring that content creation is of a high quality from the start.

Repetitions welcome

Editors work in their familiar editing environment (e.g. Adobe® FrameMaker®). As they type, a MindReader reference window shows previously created, and therefore established, words and phrases from the source-language reference material. The matches are shown in a separate window and can be copied by a click of the mouse or a keyboard shortcut – and of course you can copy a whole sentence or paragraph at a time.
Editors value this functionality. Identical or similar content does not have to be repeatedly recreated – with the associated risk of different wording every time. As a result, inconsistencies are avoided and translation costs saved.

Suggestions always in context

Because the reference material is not stored and managed sentence by sentence but as an entire document, the editor can immediately see the complete context of every proposed match.
The value of the copied material is also increased by the fact that it is simultaneously available in context-based translation.

Terminology support from TermStar

The integrated TermStar terminology database indicates terminology entries for the proposed matches. Preferred terms can be adopted, inadmissible terms identified and monolingual terminology entered.
